PSP International Medical Workshop a success

Leading experts from across the world met to discuss topics of key importance in the care and treatment of PSP and CBD at The PSP Association's successful seventh International Medical Workshop on Tuesday 7th July 2009.

Over 80 people attended the Workshop entitled 'The Progressive Supranuclear Jigsaw - Corners and Edges', which was held at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London. The Workshop was chaired by Professor Andrew Lees (Director of The Sara Koe PSP Research Centre and Reta Lila Weston Institute of Neurological Studies, and Chair of The PSP Association's Medical Advisory Panel) with a welcome address by The PSP Association's President, General The Lord Guthrie of Craigiebank GCB LVO OBE. A formal dinner took place after the Workshop at the RAF Club, Picadilly.

By bringing together medical and research experts on PSP and related areas The PSP Association encourages the sharing of important information, the cross fertilisation of ideas, and promotes collaborative research effort aimed at improving the lives of people with PSP and CBD. The Association's 2007 Workshop resulted in the current joint USA and UK clinical trial which is exploring the use of lithium, a drug commonly used to treat depression, as a potential treatment of PSP.

As a result of this year's Workshop The PSP Association aims to identify the areas in which future research has the potential to make a big difference to the lives of people with PSP and CBD - in the short, medium and longer term. This will form the basis for developing The PSP Association's future research strategy.
