Felixstowe Half Marathon

PSP runners after the Felixstowe Half MarathonAndrew Morgan and Maria Bird, running for The PSP Association, completed the Felixstowe Half-Marathon on Sunday 4th October.  Both managed to complete the race in their target time of 2 hours.  Andrew takes up the story:

"We arrived at Felixstowe on the Sunday morning feeling rather nervous to say the least, especially when there appeared to be a number of very professional looking runners!  However, the nerves were eased when we saw how many family and friends had turned up to support us. We wore the T-shirts The PSP Association kindly sent us and so too did Kim, my younger sister.

We started the race nice and slowly before finding our pace and were very surprised to find that we actually really enjoyed the first 7 miles.  At the 7th mile the blisters and stitches made their appearances but what kept us going was the support of people on the sidelines shouting for PSP!  At the 11th mile we were finding it really tough but struggled through it together, reminding ourselves why we were doing it.  The thought of my Dad spurring us on in spirit was enough encouragement to keep us going.  When we approached the finishing line there were hundreds of supporters and we were even mentioned by the commentator as running for The PSP Association."

In total so far the couple have collected over £1,200 in sponsorship - way in excess of their original £300 target.

Andrew stated: "We are also really pleased that we have raised not just money, but more awareness of PSP.  So many people who have donated had no idea what PSP was, but now have an understanding of the condition."
